Krimes Continues Hot Streak in Dominating Fashion

Hagerstown, Md. – Coming into night four of Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek as the point leader, Alan Krimes from Denver, Pa. made the best of his night at Hagerstown Speedway as he picked up his first ever Hagerstown win plus became the fourth different winner in the series. It also was his first win of the 2010 season in more than 25 races.

“I’m really starting to like this place,” Krimes said. “I wish we could race here more often. It definitely was the key starting up front like that. You can’t beat this place. It’s the best track we’ve raced on. It was a little dry tonight but that’s the way I like it.”

Krimes pulled the pole position and took off on the start to dominate the first half of the 30 lap event with Greg Hodnett only close enough to challenge once on lap 20 when Krimes changed lines and pulled away. He took the checkered with three lapped cars and 1.16 seconds ahead of Hodnett.

“When I heard Greg on the outside of me, I thought there must be something up there to run outside, so I moved up to take his line away,” Krimes said. “Once I got to lapped cars I moved back down to the bottom. Luckily everything worked out.”

When the green flag waved, Krimes was like a rocket ship as he blasted out of the starting gate and was 2.5 seconds ahead of Daryn Pittman by the second lap with Hodnett running third.

Hodnett moved past Pittman on lap six when Krimes caught the rear of the field and was just over five seconds behind but began to close the gap when Krimes began to maneuver through traffic. He continued to maintain a more than 2.5 second advantage until the caution waved for the stopped car of Brian Montieth on lap 17. The yellow waved again for Fred Rahmer who had a flat on the restart.

Krimes took off again but Hodnett snuck up on his outside on lap 20 as Krimes got up on the wheel and began to stretch his lead.

“Actually at one point, I heard someone back there and I moved my line up a little bit and I couldn’t hear him any more so I didn’t know who it was but somebody was coming,” Krimes said.

With the laps winding down, Krimes again moved into the rear of the field with five to go with a 1.8 second lead over Hodnett and Mark Smith. More rear cars were there but he quickly got past them to stick three of them between himself and Hodnett at the finish.

“The lapped cars held their line, that’s all you can ask for,’ Krimes said. “I tried to be careful going thru them, but you can’t hold back too much. You have to get by them and get them between you and the guy behind you.”

Ross Fronk
National Sprint Car Bean Bag Association
CEO/Founder
P.O.
Smooth Kriminal, 87 Hot in Early Going

Smooth Kriminal, 87 Hot in Early Going

By Ross Fronk

April 28, 2010

Despite not recording a win last season, the smooth and steady driving style of Alan Krimes nearly earned him the track championship at Lincoln Speedway, in 2009. His consistency is definitely not in question so far this year. The Denver, PA native tallied four top-5 finishes at Lincoln, in his first 4 starts – 3 fourth place finishes and one second place finish. He briefly held the points lead until mechanical problems relegated the 87 to the ranks of the non-qualifiers and his first (and hopefully only) DNQ of the season, on April 17th. AK managed a solid top-10 finish the following weekend, which leaves him 9th in the track championship standings, 130 points behind the leader.

AK has not had much success this season at Williams Grove Speedway, but showed signs of improvement last Friday. He has two 7th place finishes – the other three rest in the middle of the pack.

Note that Krimes seems to excel in time trial events. With several time trial (TT) shows in the near future, expect to see the 87 near the front of the field. Victory lane is well within reach. Multiple wins are not out of question for AK this year.

2010 Results:

Williams Grove Speedway: 03/19 – 18

Lincoln Speedway: 03/20 – 4

Williams Grove Speedway: 03/26 – 7 (TT 7th 18.101)

Lincoln Speedway: 03/27 – 4

Williams Grove Speedway: 04/02 – 16

Lincoln Speedway: 04/03 – 2 (TT 5th 13.545)

Williams Grove Speedway: 04/09 – 15

Lincoln Speedway: 04/10 – 4

Lincoln Speedway: 04/17 – DNQ

Williams Grove Speedway: 04/23 – 7

Lincoln Speedway: 04/24 – 8

Avg Williams Grove Finish: 12.6 Avg Lincoln Finish: 4.4 Overall Avg Finish: 8.5
